Tuesday Night’s @ The Coop

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

-Margaret Mead-

It was so exciting to show up at the Co-op tonight before our scheduled meeting.  Today was our Farmer’s Market, so the room was full of fresh organic produce: carrots, potatoes, beets, mixed lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, apples, oranges and bananas.  (Thank you, Jove and Barb for making that happen!)

Although my wife had shopped at the Co-op earlier in the day for our produce, my showing was for the first Co-op meeting of 2013, a strategy meeting.

In the past two years, our group has accomplished so much – incorporated, written policies and procedure, education, a farmer market, held numerous events, and have now grown from 0 to 74 families as Member-Owners (not bad for a bunch of volunteers).  But like many volunteer organizations, we’ve stalled.  Tonight’s meeting was to light our fire again, and I think we got it smoldering.

In a summary of tonight’s meeting, our focus for 2013 is Membership!  We need to spread our message, educate the public, and get people to join the cause.   Some of our ideas were to host potluck dinners, art shows, silent auction, neighborhood dinners, event tabling and speaking engagements.  We also discussed all the different mediums that have access us, newsletters, Facebook, blogs, Twitter, etc.   At meeting’s close the consensus was that we should meet next Tuesday to create a timeline and task list, and take it one Tuesday at a time.

Thank you Barb, Jove, Christie, Kristin, Megan, Bill, Petti and Mary for the great ideas and commitment.   I look forward to seeing each of you next Tuesday at 7pm, a day closer in creating Orange Counties 1st Co-op Grocery Store!

Feel free to join us.
