Reaping What We Sow

August is one of the most rewarding months for gardeners and farmers.  No other time of the year are they rewarded for their hard work with such abundance – vine-ripened savory tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, spicy peppers and sugary melons.

Yet this August harvest brings not only an abundance of fruits and vegetables, but also significant milestones in the growth of the San Clemente Community Market as well.

July closed with volunteers finishing the six-month’s of renovation to The Coop, our new corporate headquarters and Community Room, located on Calle Valle.  It can seat more than 40 people and will soon be opening its doors to our member-owners.

Secondly, our incorporation became official, as we finally received our filed Articles of Incorporation back from the Secretary of State.  A year of planning and deliberation now complete with an intentional Incorporation date of April 22, 2011, Earth Day!

And we are still sowing and growing.  In the coming months we are planning Farmers’ Market events, Open-Mic Nights, documentary film screenings, an acupuncture clinic, nutritional classes and our member-owner kick-off celebration.

We are all farmers in the sense that we reap the harvest of the seeds we’ve sown.  We are the nurturers of children, of families, of organizations, of businesses, of communities and for many of us, the community market as well.

If you would like to volunteer with some fellow nurturers to help our Community Market grow, please feel free to contact me at: Solmstead@SanClementeMarket.com.  All skills and talents are accepted.
